Meal prep ordering website: what yours needs and how to get one
Your ordering site is your storefront, your order form and your checkout. A meal prep site has jobs a normal online store doesn't: a menu that changes every week, order cutoffs, sizes with macros, subscriptions and delivery by ZIP code. Here's what to look for and what each option costs.
The short answer: use a meal prep platform, not a general store builder. Prepwork is the best pick.
For $9 a month you get a branded store at your-name.prepwork.io with weekly menus, sizes, calories and macros, subscriptions, pickup and delivery by ZIP code, and Apple Pay. You can build it free and pay nothing until it goes live.
We're the team behind Prepwork. How we rate
What a meal prep ordering website needs
Before you compare platforms, know the checklist. These are the things customers notice, and the things that save you hours every week.
A weekly menu
Your menu changes every week. Swapping meals in and out should take minutes, not a rebuild of product pages.
Order cutoffs
Customers order by a set day and time so you can shop and prep. Pickup and delivery often need different cutoffs.
Sizes with macros
Plenty of meal prep customers track protein. Show calories and macros on every meal, for every size you sell.
Weekly subscriptions
Recurring orders are your steadiest income. Let customers skip or pause a week themselves, so a busy week isn't a cancel.
Pickup and delivery by ZIP
Deliver only to the ZIP codes you want to drive, and offer pickup at one spot or several.
Easy payments
Card, Apple Pay and Google Pay at the very least. Bank payments help on big family orders.
Gift cards and coupons
Gift cards make an easy present, and coupons and store credit help you make things right after a bad week.
Mobile first, no app
Your customers will likely order from their phone. They shouldn't have to download anything to do it.
A kitchen on the back end
Orders should turn into prep totals, a shopping list and delivery routes, not a spreadsheet you build by hand.
Why general store builders need add ons
Store builders are made to sell the same products every day. Meal prep is a weekly cycle: menu, cutoff, cook, deliver, repeat. That gap is where the add ons come in.
Shopify is a great store builder. Shopify Basic is $39 a month ($29 billed yearly). For pickup and delivery you'd add an app like Zapiet at $49.99 to $179.99 a month. Subscriptions, texting and route planning are more separate apps. That's about $89 or more a month before any of those.
Square, Wix and similar builders are general tools too. We didn't price them for this guide. Before you pick one, check whether weekly cutoffs, sizes with macros, subscriptions and delivery by ZIP are built in, or whether each one needs an add on or a workaround. And remember a store builder is made to sell. It isn't made to tell you how many of each meal to cook on Sunday.

Prepwork's ordering store
Every Prepwork kitchen gets a branded store at your-name.prepwork.io. Customers see your weekly menu with sizes, calories and macros on every meal, and a progress bar that shows how close they are to free delivery.
At checkout they pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or bank payment. They pick pickup or delivery, each with its own days, times, cutoffs and ZIP codes. Next week, "Order again" reorders in one tap. Nobody downloads an app, and you get an owner app with order alerts.
Coupons, gift cards and store credit are built in, and subscribers can skip, pause or cancel from their own account. The best way to judge it is to click around Prepwork's live demo store like a customer would.
Behind the store, orders roll into prep totals (how many of each meal to cook, including subscription renewals) and shopping lists built from your recipes. Delivery orders become one tap driver routes. Want to read more on that side? See our guides to subscription software and delivery software.
Brekyn Swanson, owner of PBB Meal Prep, says: "Now that I am using their platform I am saving thousands of dollars every year."
How to set up your ordering website
- Write your menu and sizes. Add calories and macros to each one. Prepwork can import a menu from a spreadsheet or screenshots.
- Choose pickup, delivery or both. Set the days, times, cutoffs and ZIP codes for each.
- Connect payments. Prepwork runs on your own Stripe account, at 2.9% + 30¢ per card payment.
- Turn on weekly subscriptions so regulars order once and stay on.
- Bring your customers. Prepwork imports Shopify or Square customer lists, spreadsheets, Google Forms and even Instagram DMs.
- Share your link everywhere your customers already find you.

What should a meal prep ordering website have?
A weekly menu you can change in minutes, order cutoffs, meal sizes with calories and macros, weekly subscriptions customers can skip or pause, pickup and delivery by ZIP code, card and Apple Pay checkout, gift cards and coupons, and a layout that works on a phone without an app.
Can I use Shopify for meal prep online ordering?
You can, but Shopify Basic is $39 a month and a pickup and delivery app like Zapiet adds $49.99 to $179.99 a month. Subscriptions, texting and route planning are more separate apps, so you're at about $89 or more a month before those.

Do my customers need to download an app to order?
Not with Prepwork. Customers order from your store at your-name.prepwork.io in any browser, and can reorder with one tap using "Order again."
Can I see a real meal prep ordering site first?
Yes. Prepwork has a live demo store at prepwork.io/menu/bend that you can browse like a customer would.
